What is the Wikipedia Project?

To demonstrate your understanding of the topics and issues explored in this class and develop your advanced research skills, each student will contribute original content to Wikipedia to improve public understanding of a particular topic under examination in this class.

You may choose to create a new Wikipedia entry or substantially revise an existing entry. This assignment is designed to strengthen research skills, advance your digital citizenship, and help you become more socially and culturally aware of content gaps in the world’s encyclopedia. As part of the learning process, you write a reflective essay about your one-of-a-kind learning experience.

Write a public reflection paper about your learning experience that includes focus on the (a) most interesting ideas and aspects of the content/topic you explored, (b) your own observations about the writing/editing/learning process, and c) the role of volunteer editors in constructing public knowledge for the world. Length expectation: 1000–1500 words. Deadline: October 25.

What Was the Journey Like for You?

The instructor offered you a step-by-step plan for completing the assignment using the WikiEdu dashboard. How did you manage through the process? What delights, challenges, and obstacles did you face? How did this assignment change or reinforce your beliefs and attitudes about Wikipedia? What did you learn about yourself from completing this assignment? Develop your reflection by considering your experience in navigating this unique hands-on, minds-on experience.
